LOTS 1 TO 17 A collection of art by LENNOX MANTON to be sold on behalf of his daughter. A talented man with a fascinating life history. Dental Surgeon, Major in the British Army 1949. Exhibited; The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, 1938 Cathcart Art Society Exhibition, Knightsbridge, The French Society of Artist Salon de 1975. 27 of his works were exhibited by the Jerusalem District Commissioner 1940s. He was a member of The British Society for the Turin Shroud. Born 1917 Khartoum, studied dentistry, joined Royal Dental Corp during the Second World War, becoming the first person to be commissioned in the Middle East at the time. General Montgomery was one of his patients; he attended casualties from the 8th army after El Alamein. He was skilled at tapestry works, studied Egyptology and was known for his knowledge of Christianity in Turkey for which he lectured. He conducted a TV documentary on the caves of Cappadocia and was an important member of The British Society for the Turin Shroud often giving memorable lectures. He wrote books including St Pauls and Roman North Africa published by B.A.Seaby Ltd. As a keen army artist, he captured many views of Palestine and Jerusalem. Click to view larger size image
