49 Of Plymouth Argyle FC an original seat from Home Park Grandstand. Proceeds from this lot will go direct to St.Lukes Hospice, Plymouth.

Martin York was a big sports fan but during his working life as an architect did not have time to attend football games. In 2017 not long after he moved to Plymouth, he was diagnosed with advanced terminal prostate cancer. He was 55.

He went to see Argyle play Liverpool - and was hooked! He became a season ticket holder and this was his seat in the old Home Park Grandstand. Watching Argyle and being part of the Green Army was a great distraction from his gruelling treatment.

Martin gave a talk to the Argyle players about the symptoms of prostate cancer - and then stared to volunteer with the fitness coach and the grounds team. He was well recognised by the players and the Home Park staff at all levels. He sadly died at St Luke's on 15 January this year.

70 ELMER ELEPHANT, Lord Admiral Nelly, This design was inspired by the great East Anglian Naval Commander, Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson. The English hero had strong links to Ipswich; with a country home at Roundwood House, he was an honorary freeman of the town and, in 1800, was made high steward of Ipswich. Depicting Nelly in full naval uniform complete with medals, there is a vintage nautical feel to the design. A map of the seven seas adorns the rear of the sculpture featuring several ships including HMS Victory - Nelson's flagship at the battle of Trafalgar, Artist: Donna Newman, Donna Newman is a freelance mural artist working in Birmingham and the surrounding areas, where she seeks to inspire young people by transforming their learning environments with her vibrant artwork. 71 A BIG SLEUTH BEAR
Life Ta'bear'stryv
Life Ta'bear'stry Artist - Rebecca Cresswell - This bear reflects a theme of exploration and travel. Birmingham landmarks and transport icons celebrate the rich tapestry of life, culture and discovery. As a homage to where sun bears come from, the design mimics the jewel-like colours and shapes of South Asian tapestries. The artist plays with 'bent perspective' on the undulating, uneven surface of the bear! Rebecca has been an artist and illustrator for the past fifteen years. She is passionate about promoting the good that public art can do for communities. Many of her paintings are installed throughout the UK in hospitals and hospices, with an emphasis on providing beneficial and positive escapism from pain and suffering whilst also introducing art to the public as a vehicle for expression.

Funds raised from the sale of the bears at auction went towards Birmingham Childrens Hospital Charity who fund life-changing initiatives to make a childs stay in hospital that bit more bear-able.

Purchased at the Big Sleuth 2017 auction by Fielding's Auctioneers in Birmingham. Height approx 64 inches.

Gayani is an artist/floral designer/chef from Sri Lanka, living in the UK for twenty two years. Having established a cookery business (with artistic flair), she is currently writing her first book of Sri Lankan cooking and preparing for her first glass painting exhibition.
