News from the Rostrum

A stunning diamond ring has sold for a record sum at a Plymouth Auction Rooms this week, 29th April 2015.

Bidders from as far as the middle east and the US competed for a remarkable 4 carat diamond ring that had been in the same Westcountry family for over fifty years.

It was purchased in 1961 from Pellegrin Jewellers of Marseille, France. The family still had the original the receipt for showing that some 17,000 Francs was paid for the ring.

It had been very well looked after, locked in a safe for many years.

The diamond had all the right commercial ingredients to ensure a top price was paid being of a fine brilliant cut, high clarity and of a good colour. It was brought along to one of Paul Keen’s valuation mornings held daily at Plymouth Auction  Rooms where it was initially valued at £15,000 to £20,000.

Five telephone bids were booked two days before the sale and a host of enquiries were received thought the week by the auctioneers.

The ring was finally sold for £27,000 following an intensive bidding battle, bring the total sale price to £32,400 including buyers premium.
