GREAT RETURN FOR £15 ROLEX INVESTMENT
In 1969 a Plymouth gentleman purchased a second hand Rolex wristwatch for just £15. He recently decided to sell it and brought it along to one of our valuation days. Identified as a rare 1964 GMT watch it was valued at £5000 to £7000. It came up for auction on 27th March 2019 and attracted tremendous interest from online collectors and local enthusiasts, after prolonged bidding it finally sold for an impressive £18,000 (including auction premium) proving to be great investment.

LOCAL COLLECTOR OUTBIDS RECORD NUMBER OF ONLINE BIDDERS TO SECURE RARE ROLEX
A rare Rolex Submariner watch bought on the Falkland Islands in 1970 for just £47 attracted a record number of online bidders at the August sale. However, it was a determined Plymouth collector sitting in the saleroom that had the winning bid after he ‘fought of’ four telephone lines and a flurry of internet bids to secure the watch for a premium inclusive bid of £11,470.

An 8 day marine chronometer, the dial inscribed Barrauds’ LONDON, is expected to attract significant interest. The gimbaled movement, numbered 932, is housed in a brass-bound mahogany case, in untouched condition. A man who splashed his £100 teenage savings on two works by an artist friend of his family has seen his investment pay off in style. Adam Hedley had intended to use the money to buy a guitar, but instead on a whim spent it artworks by Fred Yates, who had stayed at the family home near Liskeard, in South East Cornwall.

The June art and jewellery auction featured three oil paintings by Robert Lenkiewicz. Estimated at £7,000-£8,000 was a Non Project Piece titled 'Study of Jane Short'. In good condition it attracted good presale interest. HENRY BORRELL (1795-1840) is listed in Britten's Book of Clockmakers as a musical clock and watchmaker of Alders gate, London. A Georgian bracket clock has its brass movement inscribed Hny Borrell. The clock was sold at our September 1st auction. It had a twin fussee movement, striking on a rack of bells. Still working after some two hundred years the clock had a wonderful tone when the group of bells are played. The movement also has a dead beat escapement.
