We are delighted to launch our inaugural sale of Designer Handbags and Luxury Accessories at Plymouth Auction Rooms.
The designer market is one of the fastest growing sectors of the auction world today, with many new UK and International collectors keen to acquire ready to wear statement fashion pieces.
Such is the demand for luxury handbags that rare designs can fetch thousands of pounds, in particular the Birkin Bags produced by Hermès are considered to be the most sought after item in fashion history – the ultimate status symbol. In 2018 Christies, London sold a Himalaya Crocodile Birkin for an impressive £162,500.
These high demands have filtered through to us here at Plymouth Auction Rooms, with the sale of a collection of chic silk scarves by Cartier and Hermès making several hundred pounds earlier this year. Auctioneer Paul Keen says “we have recognised the growth in demand for secondary market fashion and designer items, and are excited to launch the Westcountry’s first dedicated auction. We are keen to hear from anyone who has designer wares that they may wish to sell”.
With professional photography and efficient online promotion it is easy now to have every lot in front of a worldwide audience so it is no surprise to see this demand through Handbags in particular. On the 8th December, we sold a Chanel Clutch Bag for an impressive £4,960 (including premium) following a bidding frenzy.
This sale will cover all manner of fashion and luxury accessories from handbags and clothing, to luggage, jewellery, shoes and even fountain pens and cufflinks. We are searching for items by key designers such as: Dior, Chanel, Hermès, Alexander McQueen, and even Jimmy Choo. Premium values will be put on well-kept wares with original boxes and of good design.
In house expert and fashion enthusiast Tracey Still will be offering free valuations for sellers, and one-on-one guidance and advice for potential bidders. She says “I am passionate about fashion and am delighted to be handling this sale on behalf of Plymouth Auction Rooms. Many of the designer items are works of art and being able to wear them has become very appealing”.
