An RAC medal with a fascinating back story will be coming up for auction in our next Antiques & Collectables sale.

This medal was awarded to Thomas Charles Pullinger, and is inscribed ‘International Heavy Touring Car Race 1907’ awarded to all British Eastern Humber cars entered by Pullinger, a British automobile engineer.

Pullingers’ daughter, Dorothée Pullinger, was well known for developing the Galloway Car. The Galloway is thought to be one of the first times in history that a car was manufactured with women specifically in mind. Dorothée and her workers did it at a time when the world of engineering was the domain of men.

Accompanying the medal is a press clipping from 2017 with information regarding her induction into the Scottish engineering hall of fame.
