The Patricia Taylor Collection of Ocean Liner Postcards
A lifetime collection of over 450 ocean liner postcards will be coming up for auction in Plymouth next month.
Patricia Taylor (1923-2012) was born in Formby, Liverpool, and spent much of her time at the docks admiring all the great ocean liners. Her passion for these iconic ships became a hobby as she developed an interest in postcards. Over the years she collected an array of photographic and coloured postcards relating to all the many ships she had seen and other around the world. The collection includes such iconic ships from the White Star Line including RMS Olympic, HMS Titanic, RMS Lusitania, and many others. Such was Patricia’s interest that for all the ships that were sadly lost during the war, she carefully marked the front of each card ‘sunk’.
She also had an interest in the Mersey Ferries working in Liverpool in the 1940s. After the war, the family moved to Devon and the postcards and other items have now been consigned to auction by her daughter Linda.
The collection assembled in two contemporary post card albums is expected to sell for £200 to £300 (Lot 171) at Plymouth Auction Rooms in the Collectors Auction on the 6th April.
