A simple misprint has made the first edition of ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’ one of the most desirable works of the Sherlock Holmes series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930).
This particular first edition was brought along to one of Plymouth Auction Rooms South Hams Valuation Days recently, where the auctioneers were acting out their own detective work! Not only was it identified as a 1902 first edition but, with the help of the owner, a typo was spotted! The famous misprint of ‘you’ instead of ‘yours’ on page 13 increases the value tenfold and could fetch as much as £1,000 at auction.
Featuring as lot 1 in the upcoming New Year’s Day timed auction, the book will be accompanied by a 1905 copy of ‘The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ which will be an exciting addition to any collector’s bookshelf.
The New Year’s Day Auction will begin from 10:30am on January 1st and end from 5pm on Sunday 12th January.
