“The Irish Stradivari” Violin Discovered in the South Hams
An exciting discovery has emerged from a recent valuation event in the South Hams - a rare early 19th-century violin stamped Perry Dublin, attributed to the renowned Perry workshop of Ireland.
The Perry family workshop, active in both Kilkenny and Dublin, was a major force in Irish violin making during the 18th and 19th centuries. Its founder, Thomas Perry, is often referred to as “The Irish Stradivari”, and the instruments produced under his name remain highly prized by musicians and collectors alike.
This fine example has now been consigned for auction at Plymouth Auction Rooms this July, with an estimated value in the region of £5,000.
