For over 25 years Plymouth Auction Rooms have been selling pub jugs and advertising wares. An old client, who attended many auctions in the early days, sadly passed away recently leaving his extensive collection to his wife at their home in Plymouth.
Auctioneer and valuer, Paul Keen, was invited to the home to assess the collection. An array of pub jugs and adverting wares neatly housed in glass display cabinets in the upstairs bedroom reminded him of many lots that he had sold over the years. It was clear that the most efficient way to sell the collection was by auction. On receiving instructions Paul and his team revisited the home and carefully packed up the 100 or so jugs and associated items.
Once the collection was back at the Saleroom our team unpacked , sorted and catalogued every lot. Taking care to ensure matching sets remained in tack. The entire collection was professional promoted and then listed online.
Approaching the auction, we had a great indication that this would be a successful sale, with many registered online bidders and new faces viewing the lots at the Saleroom. The auction brought an array of online, room and even telephone bids for all the lots.
The top lot from this collection was Lot 234, a small lot containing the Doulton Clan Stuart Whisky Jug which drew attention from major UK and US collectors. A bid battle went from just a £100 to an impressive £1,450! The jug will now be packed up ready for shipping to the US.
The collection sold for a hammer total of £5,200 and soon we will be heading back out to the house to collect some more jugs that have been found.
The whole process from initial contact to selling of the goods was handled sensitively and carefully to assure the best experience for the seller.
