Mr Foxall from Kingsbridge saw that we held regular auctions of watches, and decided to bring along for valuation his old ‘gold’ pocket watch. On a closer inspection, we discovered a connection to his Grandfather, Harry Foxall.
The Omega 9ct gold ‘half hunter’ pocket watch, with a 9ct watch chain and medallions, was presented to Harry Foxall by Portsmouth Football Club, and is inscribed on the back:
‘Portsmouth Football club, presented to H.Foxall, in commemoration of the club gaining promotion to the First Division of the League 1926/27’, a Football Association 14ct medallion awarded for tour of Canada marked ‘FA tour, 1926 H Foxall, England Canada 1926’ a 15ct gold medallion marked ‘H. Foxall, together with a silver cigarette case inscribed ‘Portsmouth FC 1923-24’.
It generated lots of interest, particularly from fans of Portsmouth Football Club, and the Club themselves brought the Pocket Watch back for £2,000. A delighted Mr Foxall was later invited by the Club to visit and watch a match.
