It may have been sat in a drawer in France for decades, not working, with scratched and cracked glass but this 1965 Rolex Submariner wristwatch, now at Plymouth Auction Rooms, is expected to sell for thousands at the end of the month.
The watch arrived in the Saleroom on one of our Specialist Watch Valuation Days, and has been consigned from the Loire Valley via a Devon couple who knew about the popular Plymouth Watch Auctions.
The model 5513 was acquired by the owner in the early 1980’s, and at the time it had a replacement bracelet and was sent to France Rolex for a repair quote. The work was not undertaken however, and the watch was returned in a neat wooden box with Rolex wax seals.
The main appeal with this watch is the untouched tropical dial. With the discolouration due to sustained exposure to the sun, and minor flaws in the manufacturing process.
This rare watch will be Lot 199 in the 29th September Watch Auction, with a guide process of £7,000 to £8,000.
