From Middle Eastern gold to stunning diamond rings and bracelets there is jewellery for every occasion and collector coming up for auction in Plymouth next month. Be it an engagement, birthday or anniversary, the auction offers a diverse selection of affordable and high value pieces. Gemmologist and Cataloguer, Tracey Still, has been busy appraising many estate collections of jewellery and has put together a sale of some 200 lots featuring diamond solitaire rings, fine diamond line bracelets, dynamic emerald, sapphire and tanzanite gems, alongside brooches and pendants with estimates from as little as £100 to £10,000.
Choosing just five lots to focus on from this auction was never going to be easy for Tracey, but she has focused here on some of the more unusual pieces to highlight.
“I am passionate about jewellery and it is a great pleasure for me to be handling such a wealth of wonderful pieces” enthuses Tracey. “It’s fascinating how there are so many memories behind each piece and how they will now move onto somebody else”.
First up is Lot 45, an impressive handmade 18ct yellow gold and platinum ring fashioned in an Art Deco ‘crown’ style set with two round brilliant cut diamonds and two oval cut sapphires of mid blue colour, size M. A real eye catcher of a ring with a guide of £3,000 to £4,000. Lot 82 is a beautiful antique brooch depicting a jockey on a horse. The jockey is enamelled and the horse is set with old round cut diamonds and a cabochon cut sapphire as an eye, bids around £700 are expected.
The impressive 14ct white gold ring in a flower design has an added feature of articulated moving petals and a spinning heading, “I’ve never seen one like it and will not be surprised if it sells for close to £1,000” says Tracey. (Lot 91)
Lots 145 and 146 were reputedly gifted from the King of Bahraim to a member of his staff who’s family are local to Plymouth. They have no decided to consign them to auction. The impressive middle eastern 22ct yellow gold flexible bracelet is set with 22 Ottoman gold coins and on gold weight along should sell for over £2,000. The next lot is quite outstanding, an ornate Asian designed necklace comprising of five rows of natural shaped pearls which graduate in size to the intricate centrepiece which is studded with seed pearls and round cut rubies and three gold ruby set drops; in lovely condition, it should appeal to many collectors.
