Rolex watch enthusiasts are rapidly crossing over to auction in order to source their collectable watches, due to a real shortage of new watches coming onto the market. The waiting list in many retailers can be well over a year, with the supply of premium watches greatly restricted. Now worldwide collectors have turned to trusted auction houses where they can bid efficiently on well catalogued and approved timepieces, with the confidence of them being safely dispatched.
Here at Plymouth Auction Rooms we have firmly established ourselves as the leading Westcountry Saleroom for premium watches. Our Fine Watches Auction regularly features highly collectable watches selling from £2,000 to £20,000. Auctioneer, Paul Keen, says “we recognised the gap in the market for specialist sales of watches some years ago and have continued to develop our service with expert appraisals and extensive online promotion. We have also built up a good client base of serious watch collectors from as far as London, the Channel Islands, and the US.”
Three Rolex watches coming up for auction on the 23rd February (from left to right – Lot 201, 202, 200).
Rolex sport watches are particularly high in demand with prices some 30% up in the last three years. Models such as the GMT, Submariner, Daytona, and Sea-Dweller are highly sought after, especially if they are from the 1960’s. If you have a vintage dive watch, such as the Comex, you may be in for a surprise as many sell for over £50,000 today!
If you are considering selling, it is important that your watch is appraised by an expert as values are very dependent on condition and originality. Regular watch valuation days are held here at our Saleroom, with the next upcoming on Monday 7th February. Local expert Richard Sheppard will once again be here to provide free advice and valuations. Richard is passionate about watches and with his 30 years experience he often comes across many watches that he actually sold during his time in Bowden’s Jewellers of Plymouth.
