The demand for collectable antique silver is currently very high, with a healthy demand for antique silver objects from card cases, coffee pots, boxes, clocks, tea wares, and salvers. Georgian provincial silver is particularly sought after, with a new line of collectors tuning into the online sales. Recently a gentleman from the South Hams was shocked and equally delighted when his collection of silver raised over £8,000 at the Plymouth Auction Rooms, including a Georgian silver coffee pot by James Strang of Exeter dating from 1787 which sold for £2,200 (hammer price).
A special sale for silver wares is being held at Plymouth Auction Rooms in February, and entries are now invited. If you have a collection, be it a single item or a large collection that has been sat in a sideboard for years, maybe now is the time to find out what it is worth and turn that old metalware into cash!
