A welcome return to our saleroom, an exciting etching signed by Picasso of two Grecian reclining figures features in our upcoming Contemporary Art Sale on the 11th December.
The Spanish painter, graphic artist and sculptor was one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. Co-founder of Cubism and an influence on Surrealism and Expressionism, his work challenged the formalism of the 19th century, attacked artistic rules on form and structure, and paved the way for the freedom of contemporary art.
Titled ‘Le Repos Du Sculpteur II’, from La Suite Vollard, this etching dates from circa 1935, two years before his magnum opus ‘Guernica’. The etching contains the Vollard watermark, and is signed by Picasso in pencil in the lower right corner. Framed and ready to hang, the piece will be yours to own with an estimate of £2,000 - £3,000 in the 11th December Evening Art Auction.
