Private Collection of Cap Badges, Buttons and Collar Badges
In the spirit of Remembrance Day, Plymouth Auctions Rooms is lucky to have in its upcoming Auction a comprehensive collection of cap badges, buttons and collar badges, which will be available to bid on through a specialist timed auction on the 1st November.
On the heads of every soldier who fought in the First and Second World Wars were their cap badges. These defined their battalion, corps and regiment, each vital to the defence of Britain. A collection of cap badges, buttons and collar badges will form part of the specialist Toys, Models & Militaria auction in November.
This private collection is the work of one man’s effort in the 1960s, expertly researched, and the documents and books that informed his work will also be available in the upcoming auction. The collection extends beyond Britain’s shores to the cap badges of the Australian, New Zealander, South African and Canadian soldiers who were pivotal to the outcome of the First World War and are too often forgotten.
Highlights of the collection include the rare cap badge of the short-lived City of London Cyclists (Lot 18), which formed in early 1916 and was dissolved after only three months. The 1st South African Infantry cap badge makes an interesting addition, and a Victorian Early Issue Police Helmet Plate is an unusual piece among this collection.
The Specialist Toys, Models & Militaria timed auction will run from 1st November - 10th November. To learn more about how timed auctions work, please click here.
