Newlyn Painting Sells for over £30,000!

A fine painting by Harold Harvey (1874 – 1941) was the highlight of a glittering art sale at Plymouth Auction Rooms on the 16th March. Titled ‘Ring, a Ring, o’Roses’ the charming painting by one of the Newlyn Schools most popular artists generated an incredible telephone bid battle with auctioneer Paul Keen conducting bids all the way up from £6,000; with his gavel finally coming down at an impressive £25,200 (bringing the price to £31,248 including auction fees).

The three hour evening auction saw lively room and online bidding for every art section. Paul said “I was delighted with the auction, particularly selling to a packed Saleroom and many new art collectors!” Other highlights included the Beryl Cook painting ‘Tango’, which sold to a Plymouth buyer for £10,600 (plus premium) and the Alan Lowndes artwork ‘Newlyn Harbour’ raising £10,200 (including premium).
