A superb 8ft scale model of an Eagle Oil Whaler has been consigned to Plymouth Auction Rooms, and will feature as Lot 203 in the upcoming Antiques, Silver and Collectables Auction on the 8th October.
Built in the 1970s, the Merchant Navy College in Greenhithe commissioned the shipwrights at Chatham Dockyard to produce an accurate model of a whaler for use as a training aid. Every part of the whaler was handcrafted with wood, brass, and rope to exact scale and accurately labelled. In the 1990s the model set sail with the senior lecturer, Captain Richard Fuller, to Gravesend Merchant Navy College, continuing its service as a training aid. The whaler retired with Captain Fuller and was consigned to Plymouth Auction Rooms by the family. This 8ft model is expected to sell for over £1,000 and is on view now at the saleroom before it finds its new captain on the 8th October.
