Local Auctioneer Raises His Gavel to Support Plymouth Samaritans
As part of their November Antiques and Collectables Auction, Plymouth Auction Rooms will be including a number of interesting items that have been donated in order to raise much-needed funds for the Plymouth Samaritans branch.
Many of the items had been handed in to their charity shop 'Sam's Place' on Plymstock Broadway, but shop Manager Louise Orchard recognised some pieces could be quite valuable and so initially asked Plymouth Auction Rooms for their advice. However, Paul Keen the owner and chief auctioneer wanted to support the charity and go one step further by offering them not just his advice, but the chance to include their more valuable items as part of a forthcoming auction.
'In these difficult times we all recognise the valuable role that Samaritans play in allowing troubled individuals to off load their concerns to a caring listener. As a business, we are proud to play our part in helping our local branch to keep their phone lines open 24/7' said Paul.
In response, local Samaritans Branch Director Paul Sherratt said 'We are so grateful for kind initiatives like this from Plymouth Auction Rooms, to both help raise vital funds as well as ensure our free 24/7 phone number, 116 123 goes out to a much wider audience.'
Items already donated include a George North signed rugby ball, a Royal Artillery bugle, various pieces of vintage porcelain and a charming 1960's leather hippo designed for Abercrombie and Fitch and retailed at Libertys of London.
There is still time to donate to the sale. Items can be dropped off at Sam's Place on Plymstock Broadway, or for further information email please email Norman Holmes - norman.holmes@live.com
