An exciting collection of original works by British Contemporary Artist, Kurt Jackson will be presented for sale at Plymouth Auction Rooms next month. This private collection of four typical works was purchased by a local Cornish collector from the artist’s numerous exhibitions at the New Street Gallery on Plymouth’s Barbican, between the late 1980s and early 2000s. They have never been offered on the market since.
Gallery owner Francis Mallett recalls his first meeting with the artist. ‘One day in the summer of 1987 the gallery door opened and a young artist walked in carrying a box of pictures, asking me if I would like to see them. I liked them immediately, and quickly offered him an exhibition later that year. It turned out to be Kurt Jackson who was living in a small cottage with his wife on the quay at Boscastle at that time. The exhibition was titled ‘From the Source to the Sea’, and his paintings tracked the course of the Valency river from the moors through the valley to the coast. After that we staged regular successful exhibitions of Kurt’s work for many years before he moved on to bigger things in London. In 1999, as White Lane Press, we published the first monograph on his work ‘Paintings of Cornwall and The Scillies’, which included an extensive interview with the artist. The book quickly sold out its edition and was a best-seller in West Country bookshops.’
The pieces have estimates from £300 – £1,000. Join Plymouth Auction Rooms on the 12th June for this thrilling sale and place your bid on popular Westcountry and Contemporary artists. To learn more please visit bid.plymouthauctions.co.uk/auctions
