A wealth of treasures and collectables poured out of the South Hams on Monday, at the first monthly valuation morning at the Rose and Crown, Yealmpton.
Auctioneer Paul Keen “It was a super busy event, just like the Antiques Roadshow! We were nonstop, but delighted to see so many people and appraise a wide range of antiques and heirlooms”. Numerous items were consigned to auction and will appear in Plymouth very soon.
On Tuesday, we hosted “the most buoyant collectors’ sale this year”. Fine silver, musical instruments and historical collectables were in hot demand with hundreds of online bidders and several transatlantic bid battles. A family collection of silver flatware raised over £3,000 whilst the Modernist Danish silver service by Georg Jensen took off and sold for £3,800. Two lovely antique gold French pocket watches raised £2,500; two wide gauge locomotive models were full steam ahead at £3,300 whilst the Sid Gibson football collection reached a fabulous £3,800. The Stanley Lunt MM medal made a respectable £2,200.
However, the bidding for the instruments was intense with telephone and internet bidders battling for the prize piece a rare French Double Bass. Bidders were not deterred by condition faults, and it finally sold for £5,600.
