This week’s collectors auction in Plymouth saw some remarkable bidding for vintage Corgi and Matchbox model cars. The toy section of 200 lots was the second part of a four-hour auction conducted by Paul Keen. The collection of models principally came from one Plymouth gentleman but there was also a collection from Torquay on offer. A near sell-out of lots with every lot attracting multiple bids saw buyers in London, Australia, France and Germany taking some of the lead lots. The toy section raised a respectable £28,000 (including premium) with many highlights including a winning London bid of £1,250 lot 243 the Corgi Rally Monte Carlo Set. TV-related models sold well including, lot 274, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. model selling for £360, and lot 268 the Corgi Car transporter set went well at £420, whilst the iconic Dinky FAB model sold for £250.
In the collector’s section, the damage to a Paragon five-string Banjo did not deter an Irish bidder bidding online to £700 to acquire it.
The Plymouth Auctioneers are now inviting entries for their next toy sale in June. For details call 01752 254740 or email, info@plymouthauctions.co.uk.
