War Treasures: The Heroic Legacy of WWII American Major Lewis Andrew Stuck Up for Auction
Plymouth Auction Rooms is honoured to announce an extraordinary upcoming sale on the 18th of June, featuring a collection of personal possessions belonging to Major Lewis Andrew Stuck.
This remarkable collection offers a poignant glimpse into the life and legacy of a dedicated serviceman whose story is as compelling as the artefacts themselves.
Major Stuck’s collection includes a 1939 Golden Gate International Fair token, a guide booklet to U.S. Army insignia, a wealth of various badges, and an official certificate honouring his service in the Armed Forces, signed by then-President Lyndon B. Johnson.
These items encapsulate Stuck’s distinguished military career and personal history, providing a tangible connection to the past.
Born in California in 1916 to Stella (née Ford, later Vivian), who hailed from a homesteading family in Kansas, Stuck’s early life was steeped in both military tradition and pioneering spirit. He enrolled in ROTC in high school, attended a military college and Berkeley University, eventually enlisting in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he was deployed to Italy, where his plane was tragically shot down over Yugoslavia. While his crew managed to escape, Stuck’s body was never recovered. His name is memorialised on an American war memorial near Florence.
The most poignant item in the collection is the WW2 Service Flag – which was displayed in the window when relatives died in action.
The current owner of this collection is a relative of Stuck, who has preserved these items with great care. This auction offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of history that honours the memory of a brave serviceman and the enduring legacy of his family.
The collection will be featured in the upcoming auction on 18th June at 10:30am. For more information or receive a detailed list of the collection, please contact us.
