“An exciting auction of art”, enthuses Paul Keen about his upcoming sale. With over 200 paintings and prints ranging from modern British, Newlyn and naïve art, to works by popular Plymouth artists including Robert Lenkiewicz there really is something for everyone.
Paintings by popular Plymouth artist Brian Pollard are easily recognisable and now very collectable. Arriving at the Saleroom last week were four early works which were acquired by the owner at the time they were painted. The headline painting is lot 162, a rare rounded painting titled ‘Merry Go Round‘, 24″ diameter, was exhibited at the Barbican Gallery ‘Pollard’ Exhibition 1995. A stunning work which carries a guide of £1,500. More affordable but charming are other Plymouth views including the Eclipse where bidding will start at just £200.
Contrasting in style and reminiscing of J.M.W. Turner is the work of watercolourists Terry McKivragan (1929 – 2012). The 15 works mainly feature views of London, several of which have been exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London. McKivragan was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in watercolours and also the Chelsea Art Society. The collection has been consigned by his family and estimates range from £50 to £300.
The auction will be held at Plymouth Auction Rooms on Wednesday 16th March at 6:00 p.m., head to the online catalogue here.
